Premiering November 12, Being Eddie offers an intimate portrait of one of the entertainment world’s most enduring icons. Directed by two-time Academy Award winner and MakeMake founder Angus Wall, the feature documentary provides unprecedented access to Eddie Murphy’s personal reflections and professional journey. The film was edited by MakeMake’s Will Znidaric with additional editing by Chris Mitchell, color by MakeMake’s Ale Amato, and finishing by the studio’s Visual Effects department.
From teen comedian to Hollywood legend, Murphy retraces his extraordinary journey with raw honesty and humor. At 17, he shared the stage with Jerry Seinfeld and joined Saturday Night Live right out of high school. Over the next four decades, he became a global phenomenon––dominating stand-up, film, and voice acting while reshaping the landscape of modern comedy.
Produced by John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena, Being Eddie celebrates Murphy’s creative force across 50 years in entertainment—from his Oscar-nominated turn in Dreamgirls, to his beloved performance as Donkey in Shrek. The film also features appearances from Arsenio Hall, Brian Grazer, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jerry Seinfeld, John Landis, Kenan Thompson, Kevin Hart, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Ruth Carter, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Tracy Morgan, each reflecting on Murphy’s cultural impact and enduring tenacity.
“There’s just nobody like Eddie Murphy,” remarks Wall on directing Being Eddie. “He’s, of course, very funny, and he’s an icon, but he is also a blueprint for how to be in the world. I’m grateful for how incredibly generous he’s been with us - how everyone has been with us - and I’m excited for people to experience him in this film. And it was a joy to see the film come together across the studio.”
With Being Eddie, Wall and the MakeMake collective continue their pursuit of emotionally charged, craft-driven storytelling, offering a fresh, deeply personal lens on a once-in-a-generation talent.
Being Eddie premieres globally on Netflix on November 12, 2025.
