MakeMake is thrilled to celebrate Sebastian Zotoff of Rock Paper Scissors, who earned Best of Show at this year’s AICP Post Awards for his standout editing on Doechii’s music video, “DENIAL IS A RIVER.” The video also took top honors in the Editorial: Music Video category.
Directed by Carlos Acosta and James Mackel via LOTUM, the video pays cheeky homage to ‘90s sitcoms and analog aesthetics, spotlighting Doechii’s razor-sharp wit and dynamic presence. The track—off her Grammy-winning album Alligator Bites Never Heal—became an instant cultural hit, and the video is no less iconic.
Set within a fictional sitcom, Doechii is joined by Zack Fox and Rickey Thompson to re-enact the fallout of a failed relationship before breaking free—both literally and stylistically—exploding the set and stepping into a raw, self-possessed clarity.
Sebastian’s edits sharpen the comedic beats and amplify the tension between the sitcom setup and Doechii’s raw performance. His work ties together the directors’ playful concept with the track’s energy, pushing the video into something that feels both unexpected and unforgettable.
We’re so proud to be part of the team behind “DENIAL IS A RIVER” and even prouder to see Sebastian honored with AICP’s highest award.
Bravo, Sebastian! 🏆✨🥇 #WeMakeMakeIt
